Hello. You must be new here. Welcome to Next Island. You are not registered as one of the First Wave, so I presume you're from the Second Wave.
Choices:
  • Next Island?
  • First wave? Second wave?
If you choose "Next Island?"
We call this world Next Island, and it's the continuation of the Elysium project. The purpose is to set up a colony where science and reason can build a utopia, far away from Earth and its conflicts and problems.
This particular place is Crystal Resort. It is not yet complete, since all of the First Wave outside Arthur has disappeared, and the Second Wave have just started arriving.
Choices:
  • First wave?
  • What happened?
If you choose "First wave?"
We robots were sent from Earth with the First Wave explorers. We've done the best we can to continue our mission of establishing the Elysian colony here, but without the First Wavers we haven't had the guidance we need to complete it.
Fortunately, a Second Wave of Elysians, like you, are arriving now to realize the dream that is Next Island.
  • What happened?
The First Wave set out successfully from the transdimensional portals in the South Pacific on Earth, but we robots haven't seen anyone besides Arthur since our arrival.
I'm processing several potential causes for their disappearance: sabotage on the Earth end of the transport, technical failures of the portals, and the inherent dangers of arriving on this island, but I would need further information to determine an answer. There is a small chance that others from the First Wave are here and alive, but have been unable to make contact with us at Crystal Resort due to some of the threats on this island.
We've set up the basic structure for human habitation and followed our programming as best we could, but Arthur has been our only citizen, so I'm afraid the premises are a bit under-developed.
  • Go on.
First, there is the lack of direction. We do not know where the people of the First Wave want to take the development, because they are not here.
Second, our resources are limited.
And third, there are these native simians that cause problems. They steal the limited supplies we have, including spare parts. So we are lacking maintenance, which is hampering our ability to function.
Poor Samuel, for instance, is practically deranged because these papoos, as they are called, stole some of his circuits.
  • Samuel? Who is that?
0574-Samuel is one of us robots. He used to be the expert on time travel and dimensional displacement, but the papoos stole some of his circuits.
1314-Mary is another robot. Her task is that of ethical oversight, in order to prevent abuse of the scientific progresses that eventually will be done here.
I am 2922-Fyodor, and my task is that of a librarian and chronicler.
  • There isn't just robots here, right?
There are two humans here as well. I take it that you have already met Arthur. He is of the First Wave, but arrived alone. We try to make his life here as comfortable as we can, but he too lacks direction.
Then there is Io. At first, we didn't understand her. We could only communicate using a little Classical Greek, but she is bright and quickly learned English. We are certain she is not from Elysium, but we have tried to take care of her as well.
Could you please do me a favor and take a look at Samuel? He really needs to be fixed, and neither Arthur or Io have the necessary expertise.
  • I will. Thanks.
I suggest that you walk around a bit, exploring Crystal Resort on your own and talk to the people - human and robots - that you find.
  • I will. Thanks.
